Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Whitehouse's Pair Leads UC to Comeback Win in Overtime

UTICA, NY- Junior Sabrina Whitehouse (Greenwich, NY/Greenwich) netted the winning goal with 5:39 remaining in the first overtime to lift the Utica College field hockey team to a thrilling 3-2 come-from-behind win over visiting Nazareth College in Empire 8 Conference action Saturday evening.

The Pioneers have now won three straight, including back-to-back overtime victories.  With the win, Utica (5-7) improves to 3-1 in conference play.  The Golden Flyers (5-8) meanwhile drop to 2-2 in the E8. UC returns to action Wednesday as it hosts SUNY Geneseo.  Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.

Nazareth struck early at 4:21 as Jennifer Hiltz netted her eighth of the year on a point blank shot from eight yards out on the right side.

Despite controlling the majority of play, Utica had nothing to show for it as the Pioneers trailed 1-0 heading into halftime.  UC was finally able to get on the board at 41:20 when senior Ricki Haab (Stowe, VT/Stowe) buried a rebound for her third of the year.  Sydney Scaccia (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) was credited with an assist on the equalizer.

Naz regained the lead at 49:44 when Hilts put in her second of the day off a long pass by Abbey Szumloz.  With time running out, the Pioneers were able to tie the game with just 1:57 remaining in regulation as Whitehouse put in her own rebound that snuck just inside the left post for her fourth of the season.

Whitehouse sealed the deal just 4:21 into the extra frame as she took a feed from sophomore Lexi Scaccia (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) and fired a ball that went through the legs of Nazareth goalie Amanda Chuttey for her second of the day.

Chuttey finished with 14 saves for Naz, while Megan Chamberlain (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) made two saves in net for Utica.
