Volleyball Set For Second Dual Match Against SUNY Poly

UTICA, NY - The Utica College volleyball team is ready for a local matchup at SUNY Poly on Thursday. Match time is set for 7 p.m on the campus of SUNY Poly in Marcy. 

LAST TIME OUT: Utica fell short against Elmira College on Saturday by a 3-0 score. Highlights from the match included Junior Meaghan Romaguera (Stone Ridge, NY/Rondout), who led the Pioneers across the board posting a team-high five kills and fourteen digs. Sophomore Rosemarie Fesko (Goshen, NY/Central) had four blocks and two service aces. 

EMPIRE 8 LEADERS: Freshman Taylor Crowley (Washington Township, NJ/Washington Township) is ranked third in the conference with 4.21 digs per match, while freshman Cameron Boehlert (Utica, NY/Whitesboro ) is ranked seventh with 3.34. As a team, the Pioneers are ranked fifth in the conference averaging 15.67 digs per match. Sophomore Jenna Prewasnicak (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) leads the team in assists with 169. 

TEAM STATS: Collectively, the Pioneers have recorded a total of 571 kills and 513 assists this season. 

WELCOME BACK: Freshman Cameron Boehlert (Utica, NY/Whitesboro ) has been a welcome addition back into the Utica lineup after missing a fair portion of the month of September. The first year college player has recorded 29 digs, two blocks, and six kills since her return in the tri-match against King's and MCLA two weekends ago. 

SCOUTING SUNY POLY: The Wildcats are 7-12 and most recently defeated SUNY Delhi. They are led by Karlie King, who has 209 kills, and is second on the squad in digs with 201. Shannon Mcintyre leads the Wildcats in digs with 319. Kaley Pichura leads the team in assists with 588. 

HISTORY: The Pioneers have faced the Wildcats 39 times, and have won 13 of those matches. Utica had a seven-match win streak against the Wildcats from 2001 to 2003. The Pioneers faced SUNY Poly earlier this season, and despite losing the match, they battled the whole way. Utica secured a win on the first set by a 25-18 score, and only lost the next two sets by two points. The Wildcats won the fourth set to secure the win by a 3-1 final count. Meaghan Romaguera (Stone Ridge, NY/Rondout) finished the match with eleven kills for Utica, while Rosemarie Fesko (Goshen, NY/Central) tacked on four blocks. 

UP NEXT: The Pioneers will travel to Alfred to face Alfred University in an E8 conference matchup on Friday, October 25th. That match is set for 7 p.m.
