Utica, NY - The Utica College men's soccer team notched its second straight win by a score of 1-0 on the road against SUNY Purchase in a non-confernce matchup. This comes two days after the Pioneers beat Elmira in a 3-2, comeback win to take the top spot in the Empire 8.
Utica set the tone in this one early when freshmanÂ
Jhonny Theze (Bronx, NY/Claremont International)Â fired a rocket into the goal from 35 yards out to give his team a 1-0 lead that it would hold for the duration. The Purchase goalie got a hand on the shot, but the velocity of it off the foot of Theze powered it to the back of the net. Senior
Ethan Thomas (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) was credited with the assist, making it his first of the year.
Theze now has a team-high six goals this season while also adding two assists en route to a team-leading 14 points so far in 2019.
Junior goalie
Randy Miksch (Lake Villa, IL/Warren Township) also continued his very impressive 2019 campaign, posting a seven-save night and his fifth shutout of the season.
The Pioneers return home this Wednesday to host Berkeley College in a non-conference matchup at 4 p.m.
