Utica, NY - The Utica College field hockey team advanced to 8-10 with a convincing 4-1 win over the Houghton Highlanders on senior day Saturday afternoon.
This was as a collective effort as it could get, as seven different Pioneers were credited with at least one point.
Junior Sydney Scaccia (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) notched the first goal of the game on a feed from junior Jenny Robbins (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg). This marked Robbins' first assist of the season.
Junior Jeslyn Files (Weedsport, NY/Weedsport) added another goal in the 32nd minute of the game, which was her second of the season. Senior Joanna Gaertner (Schuylerville, NY/Schuylerville) was credited with the assist, marking her first point of the season. Gaertner then added her first foal of the season in the 43rd minute on a Fiona Shea (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) centering pass.
Sophomore Lexi Scaccia (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) got in on the scoring action in the 54th minute, finding the back of the net for the first time this season on a Ricki Haab (Stowe, VT/Stowe) feed right in front of the net.
This win advanced the Pioneers to 6-1 on the season in Empire 8 play, which secures them the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament next weekend at St. John Fisher in Rochester, New York.Â
