UTICA, NY – The 4-1 Utica College women's basketball team is set to go on the road Tuesday to face SUNY-Delhi in a non-conference matchup for the second time this season. The previous meeting resulted in a 99-34 victory in favor of the Pioneers. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT: Utica is coming off an 80-54 win over MCLA last Saturday, where sophomore standout
Sydney Przygoda (Freehold, NJ/Freehold) led the Pioneers with 28 points on the night. She went 11-of-18 from the field and also recorded two assists. Senior guard
Nicolette Conkin (Los Altos, CA/Homestead) and sophomore guard
Petrina DeMarco (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) led the team with five assists each. Both junior guard
Brigid Johndrow (Bristol, CT/St. Paul Catholic) and sophomore guard
Cora Sawyer (New London, CT/New London) were perfect from the free throw line. MCLA's nine-point first quarter marks the third time this season the Pioneers kept their opponents from scoring in double-digits in the first quarter.
STAYING HOT: Through five games, the Pioneers have outscored their opponents 416-253 while averaging 83.2 points per game. That leads the Empire 8 Conference by a margin of 13.6 points. Utica leads the E8 in defensive points allowed per game, surrendering an average 50.6 points every time they take the court. With 45 3-pointers recorded so far, the Pioneers lead the conference with nine per game.
PRZYGODA DOMINANCE: Przygoda has been a wrecking ball in the paint for UC, totaling 109 points through only five games. She is currently averaging a double-double with 21.8 points per game and 10.8 rebounds. She is shooting 46-of-68 on the season, which slates her just above 67 percent from the field. Przygoda has netted at least 20 points or more in her last four games for the Pioneers. Her 54 rebounds lead Utica and currently places her second in the conference.
EMPIRE 8 LEADERS: Conkin is second in the conference with 93 points, which equates to 18.6 per game. She leads the E8 with 21 steals, averaging 4.2 per game. DeMarco leads the pack from downtown, netting 14 3-pointers while averaging 2.8 per game. Junior guard
Kimberly Soriano (Queens, NY/Monsignor McClancy Memorial) is in the top 10 in the conference with eight 3-pointers so far this season.
TEAM EFFORT: Utica has a lot of depth in their lineup this season, including senior guard
Marissa Woods (Westampton, NJ/Rancocas Valley) who is fourth from behind the arc on the team. She has netted five 3-pointers thus far, totaling 20 points through five games. Freshman guard
Julia Rotando (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) is now shooting .556 on the season, netting six points in her previous outing. Freshman forward
Cassie Chalon (Norwich, NY/Cato-Meridian) is fourth on the team with 15 rebounds.
SCOUTING DELHI: The 1-4 Broncos are led by Camryn McDonald, who leads the team in points with 13.3 per game. Diana Echols leads the team in rebounds averaging 8.4 per game, and Samiaya Salley is currently averaging a team-high 4.8 assists per game.
