UTICA, NY- The Utica College women's hockey team dropped its season-opener to local rival Morrisville State 6-1 Friday afternoon.
The Mustangs scored two goals in each period to come away with the win. Morrisville's top line of Mackenzie Lombardi, Kylie Cameron, and Maddison Devlin combined for five goals on the day.
Freshman
Morgan Leib (Farmington Hills, MI/Little Caesars) finally put Utica on the board at 15:24 of the third period as she netted her first collegiate goal. Classmate
Holly Silva (Boston, MA/Worcester Academy) had an assist on the tally for her first career point.
Sophomore
Savannah Gutierrez (Huntington Beach, CA/Anaheim Lady Ducks) made 28 saves in net for Utica, while Adriana Harman had 12 saves for the visitors.
The Pioneers return to action on Tuesday as they travel to Nazareth College to open up UCHC Conference play. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
