UTICA, NY – The Utica College women's basketball team will host Morrisville State in a non-conference matchup Saturday morning at Miga Court. Tip-off is set for 11 a.m.
LAST TIME OUT: The Pioneers defeated Alfred State Tuesday night by a final score of 74-66. Senior guard
Nicolette Conkin (Los Altos, CA/Homestead) led the way for the Pioneers with 21 points, nine of which came from downtown. Sophomores
Sydney Przygoda (Freehold, NJ/Freehold) and
Petrina DeMarco (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) each contributed 15 points of their own en route to another Pioneer win.
TEAM STANDING: The 6-3 Pioneers still lead the conference in scoring with 701 total points so far this season. They are averaging 77.9 points per game and have outscored their opponents 701-531. As a team, UC is shooting 43.1 percent from the field and 31.2 percent from behind the arc.
E8 LEADERS: Przygoda leads the league with 179 points, averaging 19.9 points per game. She is ranked third in rebounds with 97, averaging 10.8 per game. She is one of three athletes who are currently averaging a double-double this season. Przygoda also leads the E8 in field goal percentage, shooting an impressive 66.7 percent. Conkin leads the conference in both assists (56) and steals (32) as well.
HELPING OUT: Twelve Pioneers have now entered double-digit scoring figures this season.
Kimberly Soriano (Queens, NY/Monsignor McClancy Memorial) continues to be a threat behind the 3-point line, knocking down 17 3-pointers this season. DeMarco leads the team with 24 3-pointers.
Brigid Johndrow (Bristol, CT/St. Paul Catholic) continues to show her dominance on the boards, as she now has 37 total rebounds on the year.
SCOUTING MORRISVILLE: The 4-3 Mustangs are led by Tori Rockefeller, who is averaging 17.7 points per game this season. She also leads the team with 41 rebounds. Alexis Campbell and Rachel Vieira are tied for first in assists with 12 each. As a team, they are shooting 32.2 percent from the field.
HISTORY: This will be the fifth meeting between the Pioneers and Mustangs, and Utica has won three of the last four meetings. The Pioneers have also one the last two matchups.
