UTICA, NY - Two members of the Utica College Field Hockey team have been named to the 2019 Longstreth/NFHCA All-Atlantic Region Field Hockey Teams. The National Field Hockey Coaches' Association announced that senior defender
Ricki Haab (Stowe, VT/Stowe) and senior midfielder
Josie Sgarlata (Canastota, NY/Canastota) have been selected to the All-Atlantic Region second team. The announcement was made on Tuesday.
Haab and Sgarlata are honored after previously earning first team All-Conference from the Empire 8. They led Utica to an 8-11 overall record, and a 6-1 conference record this season. They advanced to the Empire 8 conference tournament for a second time in three years.
Utica has placed a player on the All-Region teams in each of the last three seasons.
Haab played in and started all nineteen matches for Utica, and had four goals and four assists while logging 1,097 minutes on the field to rank second among Utica field players this season. She was the primary push player on Utica's penalty corner battery this season. This is the first all-region selection of her career. Haab is also now a two-time All-Conference selection.
Sgarlata also makes the All-Region cut for the first time as a senior. The midfielder was able to create a ton of opportunities with her speed and agility, and she had three goals and three assists for a career-high nine points this season while covering the length of the field at the midfield position. She was also primarily employed as one of Utica's main hitters on the penalty corner unit. She had two game-winning goals to lead the team.
All-Americans will be announced in the coming weeks.
