UTICA, NY – The Utica College women's basketball team has a challenging two days on the horizon. The Pioneers travel to Clinton to face Hamilton College in a non-conference matchup. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. Utica will stay on the road Tuesday, traveling to Alfred State to face the Pioneers in a non-conference matchup that was previously postponed due to weather. Tip-off for that match is at 6 p.m.
Last Time Out: The Pioneers lost a tough battle against SUNY Poly on Wednesday as the Wildcats sprinted away on a late run to win 70-60. Sydney Przygoda (Freehold, NJ/Freehold) had another exciting night on the court netting 20 points of her own along with 19 rebounds. This is her sixth game in a row scoring 20 points or more, and has she has scored at least 20 points in all but one game so far this year. The nineteen rebounds was the second highest total of her career. Senior guard Nicolette Conkin (Los Altos, CA/Homestead) scored 15 points, netting nine points from beyond the arc.
A Great Start: The Pioneers have opened the season at 5-2. The last time the Pioneers started the season off 5-2 was back in 2007 when they finished the year 17-11.
Ahead Of The Curve: Offensively, the Pioneers are outscoring their opponents 574-373. The Pioneers have only allowed 373 points from opponents while averaging a 28.7 point margin.
Empire 8 Leaders: Przygoda continues to lead the league in points as she has now accumulated 159, averaging 22.7 per game. Her 86 rebounds so far have moved her to second place in the conference, at an average of 12.3 per game. She is one of three players averaging a double-double this year. Conkin leads the league with 45 assists on the year. She also leads the conference in steals with 28 so far, at an average of 4.0 per game.
Helping Out: Petrina DeMarco (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) and Kimberly Soriano (Queens, NY/Monsignor McClancy Memorial) continue to help the Pioneers from behind the arc. Both players, along with Conkin, have netted at least 10 3-pointers so far this season.
Scouting Hamilton: The Continentals are led by Zarle Kelcie who is averaging 13.1 points per game. Kayla Glemaud leads the team in rebounds with 5.9 per game.
Scouting Alfred State: The Pioneers are led by Rayanna Anderson, who leads the team in points averaging 14.5 per game. Jordyn Pettit leads the team in rebounds, averaging 7.3 per game.
Series History: The Pioneers have 11 all-time wins against Hamilton. Utica has only faced Alfred State once, and won by a final score of 71-52 last year.
