UTICA, NY- The Utica College women's lacrosse team will play its second game of the season this Friday against New Paltz at home in a non-conference matchup. The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.

Emily Rossi (Verona, NY/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill),
Addison Green (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro),
Katie McDowell (Wynantskill, NY/Averill Park), and
Kaitlynn Palmer (Verona, NY/VVS) each had one goal in the UC victory.

American Heart Association Game: As part of the festivities for the annual America's Greatest Heart Run & Walk at UC, the Pioneers will be dedicating Friday's game to the fight against heart disease… Throughout the contest against New Paltz, the Pioneers will be collecting donations to benefit the American Heart Association.

Victorious Vandermeulen: Junior captain
Hali Vandermeulen (Walden, NY/Valley Central) was named the Empire 8 Goalie of the Week on Monday after she turned aside seven of eight shots she faced in the first half against Morrisville… This marks the fourth time in the last two seasons that Vandermeulen has earned Goalie of the Week honors… After the first week of the season, Vandermeulen leads the E8 with a .875 save percentage.Â

Scrappy Scarpinella: After missing the majority of last season due to injury, senior
Katlyn Scarpinella (South Setauket, NY/Ward Melville) wasted little time getting back into the swing of things as she led UC with five points in the first game of the season (two goals, three assists)... Scarpinella is the active leader with 78 career points (54 goals, 24 assists).Â

Freshmen Fitting In: Â Utica's newcomers made an impact in their first collegiate action as
Lexi Scaccia (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro),
Emily Rossi (Verona, NY/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill), and
Addison Green (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) each netter their first collegiate goals… Scaccia also led the Pioneers with five draw controls and she picked up three ground balls as well… Classmate
Claire Frier (Lafayette, NY/Lafayette) came on in relief of Vandermeulen and made five saves on seven shots in 30 minutes of action.Â

Scouting New Paltz: The Hawks had a 5-9 overall record with a 1-7 conference record last season... Sophomores Amy Hofer and Tara Bovich led the team in scoring with 31 goals each, with a combined of 73 points (37 Bovich, 36 Hofer) in the 2018 season.

Against New Paltz: Utica is 3-0 all-time against New Paltz, however this marks the first meeting between the two teams since 2003.Â

Looking Ahead:Â The Pioneers will travel to Saratoga Springs, NY on Tuesday to take on Skidmore College. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
