Men's Lacrosse Takes Down Castleton on the Road

Castleton, VT – The Utica College men's lacrosse team was on the road Saturday for a non-conference meeting with Castleton University. The Pioneers snapped a two-game losing skid, defeating Castleton, 13-6.
 
Dale Wagner (Elbridge, NY/Jordan Elbridge) had himself a day, scoring four goals to lead the way for UC. John Hanlon (Coconut Creek, FL/St. John Paul Academy) recorded three scores and grabbed four ground balls to fill his stat line. Jared Smaldon (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) and James Daniele (Pleasantville, NY/Pleasantville) both finished with two goals, as Daniele added one assist as well.
 
Kevin Parisi (Glenwood, NY/Vernon Township) led the team with eight ground balls and three caused turnovers. Teammate Tyler Giachinta (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) tallied three caused turnovers and scooped up seven loose balls on the day. Tyler Crouse (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) also contributed with his effort, coming away with five ground balls and two caused turnovers. Goalie Ryan Boshart (Fayetteville, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) made seven stops in net, helping Utica improve to 3-3 on the year.
 
Castleton drew first blood with an early goal, but the Pioneers kept the game tight as they trailed 3-2 at the end of the first quarter. More back-and-forth scoring occurred in the second period making it a tie game at 5-5 going into halftime.
 
Utica would take control of the game in the third quarter, scoring five goals in the to secure a four-goal advantage heading into the final quarter of play. The team put the game away in the final quarter, registering three more goals for insurance to complete the seven-goal victory. As a team UC out shot Castleton 39-26, and grabbed 16 more ground balls throughout the contest.
 
The Pioneers will return home on Wednesday, as they will host Keuka College. The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
