Men's Lacrosse Squeezes Out a Win on Saturday

Marcy, NY – The Utica College men's lacrosse team earned its first win of the 2019 season on Saturday, defeating SUNY Poly 13-12 on the road. Dylan Dunham (Elbridge, NY/Jordan Elbridge) finished with four scores and one assist, as the Pioneers held off a Wildcat comeback to improve to 1-1 overall.

UC took an early lead, scoring the first four goals of the game in the opening quarter. James Daniele (Pleasantville, NY/Pleasantville) and Dunham each scored twice in the first. Poly was able to get on the board in the period, as Utica would hold a 5-2 lead going into the second quarter. Two more goals from Dunham, including one man-up score, increased the Pioneer advantage to a four-point lead at halftime.

Utica scored both a man-up and a man-down in the third quarter, but SUNY Poly kept pace. Each team scoring three goals in the period, led to an 11-7 Pioneer lead heading into the final quarter. After trading goals to start the period, the hosting Wildcats went on a big run, scoring four unanswered goals down the stretch to make it close. However, UC did just enough to hold on for the one-goal win.

Dylan Dunham (Elbridge, NY/Jordan Elbridge) led the way with four goals and one assist offensively, while teammate Kevin Parisi (Glenwood, NY/Vernon Township) got it done in other areas with team-highs of five ground balls and five caused turnovers. John Hanlon (Coconut Creek, FL/St. John Paul Academy) made four assists, Dale Wagner (Elbridge, NY/Jordan Elbridge) tallied two goals and two assists, and John Avery (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford-Mendon) recorded three scores.

UC goalie Harrison Bower (Northport, NY/Kings Park) gets his first win of the season, making 12 big saves for the team. The Pioneers will host Hamilton College on Wednesday for their home opener at 5 p.m.
