UTICA, NY- The Utica College women's lacrosse team had its six-game winning streak snapped Saturday as it fell to visiting Nazareth College 14-11 in Empire 8 Conference action Saturday afternoon. The loss also ends Utica's seven-game home winning streak.
Utica drops to 8-2 overall and 2-1 in the E8. Nazareth meanwhile improves to 5-4 overall and 2-1 in the conference. The Pioneers look to bounce back next Saturday as they host Alfred University. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
The Golden Flyers jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the first 8:08 of the contest before Utica responded with four of the next six goals, including two off the stick of senior
Katlyn Scarpinella (South Setauket, NY/Ward Melville) to knot the game at 5-5. Nazareth regained the lead with just 1:38 remaining in the first half as Emma Robinson netted her 21
st goal of the season to give the visitors a 6-5 lead going into halftime.
Utica came out flying in the second half and was quickly rewarded as Scarpinella buried a feed from
Lexi Scaccia (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) just 51 seconds into the second half to even the score once again.
The teams traded goals over the next 14 minutes until Naz rattled off five in a row to take a 14-9 lead with 4:26 remaining. Utica was able to get two past Nazareth goalie Brianna Rizzari, but it was not enough as the Golden Flyers hung on for the win.
Scarpinella led all players with six points on the day as she finished with four goals and two assists. Freshman
Addison Green (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) netted three goals of her own, while classmate
Jessie Biegel (Ridge, NY/Longwood) scored two goals. Juniors
Hailee DuMont (Wilkes-Barre, PA/James M. Coughlin) and
Kaitlynn Palmer (Verona, NY/VVS) each chipped in with one goal apiece to aid the attack.

Kelsey Trainor (Wallkill, NY/Valley Central) led UC with three caused turnovers each, while Scarpinella had a team-high seven ground balls.
Lexi Scaccia (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) finished with eight draw controls on the day. Junior
Hali Vandermeulen (Walden, NY/Valley Central) made 10 saves in the loss, while Rizzari finished with 15 saves for Nazareth.
