Delhi, NY – The Utica College men's tennis team took on SUNY Delhi on the road Wednesday for some non-conference action. The Pioneers swept the Broncos at the match, winning by a score of 9-0.
In the sixth singles slot,
Gianluca Baggetta (Maple, Ontario/North York (OJHL)) won 6-2, 6-0 to score UC a match point. Baggetta is now 2-0 on the year in singles play.
LJ Nuzzo (Peru, NY/Peru Central),
Paul Litvak (Brooklyn, NY/Abraham Lincoln), and
Ethan Trembley (Schenectady, NY/La Salle Institute) all took care of business in their single bouts to secure match points for the team.
Austin McGrain (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford) had to win the tiebreaking set to earn his win in the second singles slot. Teammate
Tyler Pietrowski (Curtice, OH/Odessa Jackalopes (NAHL)) was also pushed past the first two sets before winning his matchup to score a Utica match point.
In first doubles
LJ Nuzzo (Peru, NY/Peru Central) and
Austin McGrain (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford) worked together for an 8-4 victory.
Paul Litvak (Brooklyn, NY/Abraham Lincoln) teamed up with
Ethan Trembley (Schenectady, NY/La Salle Institute) for an 8-6 win in second doubles, giving the duo four doubles wins in their last five matches together. Finally the pair of
Tyler Pietrowski (Curtice, OH/Odessa Jackalopes (NAHL)) and
Gianluca Baggetta (Maple, Ontario/North York (OJHL)) cleaned up in the third set of doubles action, winning 8-2.
The Pioneers improve to 3-6 overall on the season and have now won two of their last three matches. The team will host a pair of Empire 8 contests over the weekend, facing Alfred at 4 p.m. on Friday and Stevens at 12 p.m. on Saturday.
