Hanlon's Seven Assist Day Helps Lead UC to Convincing Win at Elmira

ELMIRA, NY – Utica senior John Hanlon (Coconut Creek, FL/St. John Paul Academy) registered seven assists as the Utica College men's lacrosse team cruised to a 20-4 victory on the road at Elmira College in Empire 8 Conference action on Saturday.  Hanlon's 28 assists this season are tied for third on the College's all-time single season list. Craig DiSanto (Montebello, NY/Suffern) added five points on two goals and three assists and 12 different Pioneers recorded at least one point on the afternoon. 

UC snapped a three game slide and improved to 6-9 overall and 2-5 in Empire 8 action.  The Pioneers outshot the Soaring Eagles 56-13 on the day and also forced 38 Elmira turnovers.  

Dylan Dunham (Elbridge, NY/Jordan Elbridge) posted a team-high four goals on the afternoon, while Andrew Yozzo (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) added a career-best three goals.  Tyler Giachinta (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) recorded two goals and one assist on the afternoon and Dakota Allen (Rome, NY/Holland Patent) added three goals. 

UC fell into a 1-0 hole but answered with nine consecutive goals to take a healthy 9-1 lead with 4:59 to go in the first half.  Dunham scored three of his four goals in the first half goal scoring frenzy for the Pioneers. 


UC did not let down and scored the first six goals of the second half to extend its lead to 16-2. Andrew Yozzo (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) netted two goals in the stretch to put the Pioneers on top by 14 with 12:52 remaining in the contest. 

The Pioneers outscored the Soaring Eagles 6-2 in the fourth quarter to earn the 16 goal victory.  

John Avery (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford-Mendon), Nicholas Horne (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna), James Daniele (Pleasantville, NY/Pleasantville) and Trevor Pletl (Deerfield, NY/Whitesboro) each added two points on the afternoon. Long pole Michael Foresti (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) and Lucas Sexton (Hampton, NH/Winnacunnet) each posted one goal for Utica. Foresti also added five ground balls and three caused turnovers to round out a stellar afternoon. Kevin Parisi (Glenwood, NJ/Vernon Township) recorded three caused turnovers and two ground balls. 

Josh Bennett (Watervliet, NY/Shaker) won six faceoffs and tallied five ground balls. Drew Turck (Lowville, NY/Lowville) was a perfect 6-for-6 at the faceoff x for the Pioneers. 

Harrison Bower (Northport, NY/Kings Park), Ryan Boshart (Fayetteville, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) and Dylan Allen (Rome, NY/Holland Patent) all split time in net for the Pioneers. Allen registered four saves, while Boshart added one save in 15 minutes of action.  Elmira's Jacob Mattice posted 14 saves in the loss. 


UC returns to action on Saturday at home when the Pioneers host Houghton College on Senior Day at Gaetano Stadium.  The contest is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
