CANTON, NY- Junior
Kaitlynn Palmer (Verona, NY/VVS) netted the game-winner with 2:47 remaining and classmate
Hali Vandermeulen (Walden, NY/Valley Central) made two big saves on free position shots in the final two minutes as the Utica College women's lacrosse team defeated host SUNY Canton 11-10 in non-conference play Tuesday afternoon.

Vandermeulen finished with 13 saves to pick up her 11
th win of the season. She now has sole possession of first place in the College's record book for wins in a single-season. Vandermeulen is also now tied with Pioneer Hall of Famer Shelby Barbay '12 for first all-time with 26 career wins.Â

With the win, Utica improves to 12-3 on the year. The Pioneers will wrap up the regular season on Saturday as they travel to Empire 8 foe, Houghton College. Game time is scheduled for 12 p.m.

The Roos jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first 6:30 of play and led 3-1 at the 16-minute mark of the first half, but Utica rallied to take a 6-5 lead into halftime. Â Â

The teams traded scores in the first 10 minutes of the second half, but the Roos took the lead at 19:22 as MaryClare Bowes netted her 45
th goal of the year. Utica responded at 14:51 when freshman
Lexi Scaccia (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) scored on a free position for her 25
th of the season.

SUNY Canton once again took a one-goal lead, this time at 6:57 off the stick of Jessica Pele, but freshman
Jessie Biegel (Ridge, NY/Longwood) evened the score just 1:16 later with her 19
th of the season.

Utica appeared to take the lead at 4:43 as
Addison Green (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) scored on a free position, but it was ruled that she had played with an illegal stick, resulting in the goal to be disallowed. Just 1:56 later, however, Palmer made it count with her team-leading 32
nd goal of the year to put UC up 11-10. Vandermeulen and the UC defense shut down the Canton attack and the Pioneers were able to run out the clock to ensure the victory.

Palmer finished with a team-high three goals, while
Katlyn Scarpinella (South Setauket, NY/Ward Melville) and
Lexi Scaccia (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) each had two goals. Biegel,
Lauren Wolff (Peabody, MA/Peabody),
Stephanie Husnay (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro), and
Noelle Capriglione (New Milford, CT/New Milford) registered one goal apiece.Â
Hailee DuMont (Wilkes-Barre, PA/James M. Coughlin) assisted on the game-winner, and
Sydney Scaccia (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) and
Addison Green (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) also tallied assists.Â
