Cleveland, OH – The Utica College volleyball team dropped both of its matches Saturday morning to finish out the season-opening Case Western Tournament in Cleveland, Ohio. The Pioneers fell to Carnegie Mellon in the first game and Denison in the second, both coming by a 3-0 decision.
Utica 0, Carnegie Mellon 3 – Game One Final
The Pioneers came out the gates firing, as they held a 6-4 lead early on in the first set. Sophomore
Rosemarie Fesko (Goshen, NY/Central) was the catalyst, putting together three straight points on one service ace and two consecutive kills. Carnegie Mellon answered immediately, going on a 9-0 run to take a 13-7 lead. The Tartans rode this momentum for the rest of the set, taking it by a score of 25-12. Set No. 2 held the same script, as Carnegie Mellon jumped out to an early 14-4 advantage and took a 2-0 lead finishing the set with a convincing 25-9 performance. The Tartans took the third set by a score of 25-7 to close out the match and advance to 2-0 on the season.
Freshman
Cameron Boehlert (Utica, NY/Whitesboro ) led the Pioneers' effort in the first match, as she totaled a team-best six kills. Classmate
Loryn Wilcox (Canastota, NY/Canastota) played the facilitator role, leading the team with four assists. Wilcox also added six digs, a team-high that she shared with freshman
Taylor Crowley (Washington Township, NJ/Washington Township).
Utica 0, Denison 3 – Game Two Final
The freshman class continued to show out in the second match of the day against Denison, as both
Eleanor Cepiel (West Sand Lake, NY/Academy of Holy Names) and
Alicja Swiechowska (Carmel, NY/Carmel) led the way offensively with a team-best four kills. Sophomore
Casey Sims (Schenectady, NY/Niskayuna) stood out in this match as well, leading the team with 11 assists.

Morgan Farmer (Saranac Lake, NY/Saranac Lake), added two service aces in the match as well.
Crowley picked up right where she left off defensively, totaling a team-high in digs for the second match in a row with 10. Farmer finished right behind Crowley with five digs, while Sims, Wilcox and Boehlert added two.
UC drops to 0-3 on the year. The Pioneers return to New York for another away match against SUNY Delhi on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
