Pioneers Set for Match Up Against #14 U of R

UTICA, NY – The Utica College field hockey team continues its four-game home stand to open up the season against the University of Rochester Friday night. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium. 

LAST TIME OUT: The Pioneers are coming off a 2-1 loss to Ithaca College last Wednesday. While Utica was up 1-0 in the third quarter, the Bombers were able to scrape two goals across the board in the fourth to secure their win. Junior Sabrina Whitehouse (Greenwich, NY/Greenwich) scored the only goal for the Pioneers, which was assisted by senior Josie Sgarlata (Canastota, NY/Canastota).

LEADING THE WAY: Whitehouse has now stretched her scoring streak to seven straight games. She has also registered at least one point in nine of her last 10 games, totaling 15 points in that span. 

DISHING IT OUT: Junior Sydney Scaccia (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) leads the team with five points on the season. Scaccia is halfway to tying her point total from last season (10) just three games into the year. Whitehouse currently sits behind her with four points.

SAVING THE DAY: Sophomore Megan Chamberlain (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) has totaled 28 saves so far. Last season, Chamberlain saved 111 shots, only giving up 36 goals while accumulating a .755 save percentage.
 
SCOUTING THE YELLOW JACKETS: Rochester's Yellow Jackets are currently ranked No. 14 in the latest NFHCA coaches poll. The Yellow Jackets are led by senior Catherine Hauser, who has five goals and 11 points on the year. Senior Kate Kujawa has 15 saves so far, and she has only given up two goals through three games.

AGAINST THE YELLOW JACKETS: The Yellow Jackets have met the Pioneers 15 times since 2001 winning 10 out of 15 games. The Pioneers last met the Yellow Jackets on September 9, 2018, where they lost by a score of 4-0. The Pioneers only took nine shots all game compared to the Yellow Jackets 21.

LOOKING AHEAD: The Pioneers hit the road on Wednesday, September 18 against Brockport. That matchup will be at 7:00 p.m.
