Last time out: The Pioneers started 2019 with back-to-back 3-2 wins over SUNY Poly and SUNY Delhi, but dropped their first and only loss of the year last Saturday to Morrisville State in overtime. The team finished out the Utica College Invitational with a 1-1 tie against SUNY Cobleskill. Senior
Thomas Muller (Camillus, NY/Bishop Ludden) scored the lone goal of the match for UC. Senior
Tucker Marvin (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) set the play up, and junior
Patrick Hynes (Glenmont, NY/Bethlehem) centered the ball perfectly, where Muller then found the back of the net off a header to notch his first goal of the season and force overtime. Marvin and Hynes were both credited with an assist.
Even History: Utica College has a very brief history with Clarkson, as the two teams have played each other only four times in program history. Clarkson holds a slight advantage, as UC has a 1-2-1 overall record against the Golden Knights since the first matchup in 2011.
Scouting Clarkson: The Golden Knights have a 2-2 record so far, but have dropped the last two games against Brockport and SUNY Geneseo, respectively. Seniors Aidan Subra and Erick Naula lead the team with two goals while senior Stephen Klimek has provided the sole assist for the team this year
Senior leadership: Senior
Tucker Marvin (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) has notched two goals and one assist en route to a team-high five points this season. Marvin has already broken his career season-high in points from 2018, where he finished the season with two goals and four total points.
Young Talent: Freshmen
Connor McQuillan (Rochester, NY/Brighton) and
Jhonny Theze (Bronx, NY/Claremont International) have provided quality minutes for the Pioneers in the first four games of their careers, posting one goal and one assist. This currently leaves them tied for second-most points on the team with three.
Lucky Number 3:Â Senior
Adnan Bakalovic (Utica, NY/Proctor High School) and Hynes have served as facilitators for the Pioneers in 2019, as they have both dished out a team-high three assists thus far.
Solid Net: Junior
Randy Miksch (Lake Villa, IL/Warren Township) has improved his stat line each game so far in 2019, recording two saves in the first two games while adding four saves against Morrisville State and five against SUNY Cobleskill. Miksch has played every single minute in goal for the Pioneers this season.
Unparalleled Endurance: Hynes and junior
Daniel Varsames (Gansevoort, NY/Saratoga Springs) are the only other players outside of Miksch who have played all 385 minutes for the pioneers this season.
Up Next: The Pioneers continue their four-game home stand against SUNY Potsdam on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
