Field Hockey Scores Four Unanswered to Top SLU in OT

CANTON, NY- Senior Fiona Shea (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) netted the game-winner 5:54 into overtime as the Utica College field hockey team downed host St. Lawrence University 4-3 in non-conference action Tuesday evening.  UC erased a three-goal deficit and scored four unanswered, capped off by Shea's clincher to come away with the win.

The Pioneers have now won two in a row, outscoring their opponents 7-3 over the last two games.  They look to carry their momentum into a big Empire 8 Conference contest at St. John Fisher College on Saturday.  Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.

St. Lawrence scored two goals in the first quarter and added a third tally at 27:03 to take a commanding 3-0 lead.  It was short-lived however as just 1:24 after the third St. Lawrence goal, Utica finally got on the board when junior Sydney Scaccia (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) netted her fourth of the year.

Senior Ricki Haab (Stowe, VT/Stowe) cut the Saint lead to one at 33:19 as she put in her first on the year.  Off a corner, Haab inserted the ball to Sabrina Whitehouse (Greenwich, NY/Greenwich) at the top of the arc.  Whitehouse ripped a shot that Haab redirected at the side of the net to bring the score to 3-2.

Down to the final minutes, Utica was able to even the score with just 2:12 remaining in regulation as Madeline Krecidlo (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) deflected a shot by Josie Sgarlata (Canastota, NY/Canastota) for her third of the year and second in as many games.

The Pioneers capped off the comeback 5:54 into the extra frame when Shea buried a rebound on the far side of the circle for her first of the season.

Sophomore Megan Chamberlain (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) made nine saves in the win, while her counterpart, Sydney Giacin had 12 saves in the loss.
