Utica, NY - The Utica College volleyball team finished out the University of Rochester tournament earlier today with two losses against SUNY Cortland and Buffalo State, respectively.
Junior
Meaghan Romaguera (Stone Ridge, NY/Rondout) was a standout all day for the Pioneers, posting a team-high six kills while adding six digs against SUNY Cortland. Freshmen
Cameron Boehlert (Utica, NY/Whitesboro ) (8) and
Eleanor Cepiel (West Sand Lake, NY/Academy of Holy Names) (7) led the way defensively, finishing with a combined 15 saves in the first match of the day.
Underclassmen also led the offensive effort in the second match of the day against Buffalo State as well, with the top four scorers being either freshmen or sophomores. Cepiel notched a team-high in kills and tied her season-high in the category with nine.Â
Sophomore
Kurstan Martin (Owego, NY/Tioga) finished right behind her with seven kills, and sophomores
Rosemarie Fesko (Goshen, NY/Central)Â (4) and
Caitlyn Curcurito (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) (3) added a combined seven kills in the final match of the tournament.
The defensive effort was also spearheaded by underclassmen, as Boehlert finished with a team-high 13 digs in the match while Romaguera added seven.
The Pioneers have one day off before traveling to Cazenovia College on Monday night, where they will be seeking their first win of the season.
