Women's Hockey Downs Chatham to Pick up Weekend Sweep

PITTSBURGH, PA- The Utica College women's hockey team used a three-goal second period to down host Chatham University 5-1 in United Collegiate Hockey Conference action Sunday afternoon.

With the win, Utica improves to 5-2 in UCHC play (5-9 overall) and secures its second conference weekend sweep of the season. The Pioneers have a quick turnaround as they host local rival Hamilton College on Tuesday evening.  Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Utica opened the scoring at 6:59 of the first when sophomore Caley Susitti (Hartland, WI/Milwaukee Jr. Admirals) scored an unassisted shorthanded tally for her second of the year.

The Pioneers added to their lead in the second period as freshmen Carolyn Whitney (Raleigh, NC/Milbrook School) and Erica Sloan (Potsdam, NY/St. Lawrence Steel) scored just 2:36 apart to make it 3-0 in favor of the Blue and Orange.  Georgiana Santullo (Woburn, MA/Boston Shamrocks/Woburn High School) and Ricki Haab (Stowe, VT/Stowe) assisted on the second and third goals, respectively.

UC was not finished as Susitti found the back of the net for her second of the game at 12:50 of the second stanza.  Senior Olivia Hirschy (Fort Wayne, IN/Culver Academies) and junior Lexi Stanisewski (Lawrence, MA/Boston Shamrocks) had the helpers on Susitti's second tally.

Utica put an exclamation point on the day at 1:57 of the third period when Santullo buried a feed from Hirschy for a goal of her own.

The Cougars were finally able to get on the board at 9:41 of the third as Fiona Danahy netted a powerplay tally to spoil Utica's shutout hopes.

Senior Bria Reilly (Hamden, CT/Brewster Academy) made 22 saves in the win, while Devon Strachan finished with 35 saves for Chatham.
