UTICA, NY - The Utica College women's track and field team hosted its second meet of the season on Saturday. The Pioneers placed in third with 112 points at the Utica College Invitational held at the Todd and Jennifer Hutton Sports and Recreation Dome.

Leading the way for Utica was a brilliant performance by thrower Katrina Cornick (Mason City, IA/Mason City). Cornick was second in the shot put at 10.97 meters, then posted her first career weight throw victory with a toss of 14.32 meters. Elsewhere in the throws, Stephanie Feathers (Petersburg, NY/New Lebanon) was fourth in the shot put at 10.05 meters, and senior Brealle Brown (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) was fourth in the weight throw at 12.67 meters. Aneesa Lewis (Clinton, NY/Clinton) scored three team points with a sixth place finish in the weight throw at 12.31 meters.

Freshman Kelsey Wands (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) led the way in the jumps with her first collegiate victory as she won the long jump in 5.30 meters. The mark is an AARTFC qualifying mark. Laura Meade (Glenville, NY/Scotia-Glenville) was third in the same event at 4.97 meters.

On the track, graduate student Kaitlyn Stinson (South Kortright, NY/South Kortright Central School) made her awaited return to the track in a Pioneer uniform after a redshirt season last year. She landed in sixth at 3,000 meters with a performance of 11:10.75. Freshman Sarah Sharpe (New Hartford, NY/New York Mills) was eighth in the 1,000 meters at 3:41.28. Elsewhere in the middle and longer distances, Laura Levi (Inlet, NY/Town of Webb), Sharpe, and Lynette Okoth (Albany, NY/Guilderland) finished third, fourth, and fifth in the 500 meters. Levi led the way out of that trio with a 1:28.99 clocking to place in the third position. Sharpe hit the line in 1:32.99, and Okoth stopped the clock at 1:33.69. Assistant coach Claire Incantalupo also competed unattached at 800 meters and impressively placed second in 2:25.87.

In the sprints, Eshone Cofield-Jackson (Glen Cove, NY/Glen Cove) had another top notch showing. She was fifth with a clock of 8.20 in the 60 meters, and was fourth in the 200 and 400 meter events. Julianne Emerson (Oneida, NY/Oneida) and Laura Meade (Glenville, NY/Scotia-Glenville) placed seventh and eighth in the 60 meter dash finals. Meade was also eighth at 200 meters, and fifth in the women's 400 on a busy afternoon. Meade ran a time of 28.10 in the 200, and put down a time of 1:04.20 in the 400 while competing in an abundance of events.

The Pioneers are back on the track on January 24th and 25th in their first road meet of the season at the Cornell Upstate Challenge held at Cornell's Barton Hall.
