Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Trio of Double-Doubles Not Enough in OT Loss

ALFRED, NY -- The Utica College women's basketball team fell in overtime at Alfred University on Saturday afternoon. Despite the loss, three Pioneers were able to record double-doubles.

UC fell behind quickly in the first quarter but was able to rally back behind two free throws and a jumper from Nicolette Conkin (Los Altos, CA/Homestead), along with a layup by Sydney Przygoda (Freehold, NJ/Freehold) and a made-three by Petrina DeMarco (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro). The Pioneers came out on top in the first quarter with a one point lead, 13-12.

It was the hosts that did most of the scoring in the second stanza, out shooting Utica 25-12, enough to lead 37-25 heading into halftime.

The third quarter was much more competitive as UC was able to battle back to within four as time wound down. Brigid Johndrow (Bristol, CT/St. Paul Catholic) led the charge, collecting 11 of the squads' 24 points. The Saxons, however, were able to build their lead back to 12 heading into the final stanza of regulation.

Utica went 6-for-9 from three-point land to erase a 16-point deficit. With 15 seconds remaining on the clock, UC trailing by three (77-74), Przygoda was able to establish herself beyond the arc and sink the game-tying basket, sending the contest into a five-minute overtime period.

Despite falling in overtime, DeMarco was stellar, going 4-for-4 at the charity stripe to pair with a free throw from Johndrow.

DeMarco led her squad in scoring, collecting a team-best 24 points, going 6-for-11 from behind the arc.

The trio of Przygoda, Johndrow and Conkin all posted double-doubles. Przygoda put up 22 points while grabbing 11 boards. Johndrow had 17 points and a perfect 10 rebounds. Conkin, who neared a triple-double had 14 points and 10 assists, and was just two steals shy of the mark (8).

Utica posted 16 second chance points thanks to 10 offensive rebounds. It also collected 26 points in the paint.

UC returns to action at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, hosting Hartwick College in Empire 8 action. a
