ELMIRA, NY -- The Utica College women's basketball team took down Elmira College by double-digits, 67-47, in Saturday's road win on Saturday. Sydney Przygoda (Freehold, NJ/Freehold) collected her 15th double-double of the season in the victory.
The visiting Pioneers were able to mount a 14 point lead throughout the first quarter, posting 13 and 8-point runs. The first run was led by Przygoda who had two layups and two free throws for eight points. It was Kimberly Soriano (Queens, NY/Monsignor McClancy Memorial) was dominant in the second scoring sequence,contributing a three-pointer, a layup and a free throw.
After getting off to a rough start, with the hosts collecting a few points, Przygoda was able to post a quartet of free throws to end the run. The second stanza also featured a 13-point run at the end, this time led by six points from Nicolette Conkin (Los Altos, CA/Homestead) on four free throws and a layup. Soriano followed with a pair of layups to help her squad own a 39-17 lead heading into halftime.
Elmira, who was able to post 11 straight points to open the half, saw its run come to an end by a pair of Soriano layups. Utica ended the quarter with a 10-point run, with six coming from Przygoda, while the hosts posted a jumper with 24 seconds to end the stanza.
The Pioneers were able to maintain their 20-pt lead throughout the final period, despite the Soaring Eagles attempts to chip it away. It was closed out by a Conkin bucket from beyond the arc.
Przygoda led her squad on both ends of the court, gathering team-bests in points (22) and rebounds (15).
Soriano ranked second in scoring, collecting 15 points while tying for first in steals with two. Conkin also added two steals to the stat sheet, pairing it with her 12 points and nine assists, just one shy of a double-double. Petrina DeMarco (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) was the last Pioneer to reach double-digits in scoring, also recording 12 points.
UC returns to action on Friday as it hosts Alfred University in a 7:30 p.m. contest.
