UC Unable to Overcome Naz on Road

ROCHESTER, NY -- The Utica College women's basketball team was unable to overcome Nazareth College on the road, falling 70-60 in Empire 8 play.

Quarter one did not go to plan for the Pioneers as the Golden Flyers were able to lead by eight points as it came to close, leading the entirety of the stanza. It was Sydney Przygoda (Freehold, NJ/Freehold) who led her team, posting six points on two layups and a pair of free throws.

Nicolette Conkin (Los Altos, CA/Homestead) powered an impressive second period for Utica, posting nine points on a three, one layup and a trio of jumpers, despite a nine-point run by the wrong squad. It was Conkin's trey that brought UC within four two close,32-28, assisted by Brigid Johndrow (Bristol, CT/St. Paul Catholic). Petrina DeMarco (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) and Kimberly Soriano (Queens, NY/Monsignor McClancy Memorial) also posted buckets from three-point land in the quarter.

Momentum switched in the wrong direction once again, as Naz opened a 15-point lead to close out the third quarter, 55-40. Conkin posted six points while Johndrow followed with four of her own.

Johndrow and Cora Sawyer (New London, CT/New London) came up big to open the final stanza, posting back-to-back threes. The hosts were able to regain control, and saw their smallest lead at 3:55 when Johndrow put up a pair of free throws to make it a 6-point game. Naz closed out the game with two baskets from the charity stripe.

Conkin led her squad in scoring with 20 points, tying for first with Przygoda in rebounds with eight. Johndrow was close behind, putting up 14 points for the runner-up spot. She also had a squad-best three steals.

The Pioneers remain on the road, as they travel to St. John Fisher for a 4 p.m. tipoff.
