Field Hockey Heads to Geneseo on Wednesday

UTICA, NY - The Utica College field hockey team is set to travel to SUNY Geneseo on Wednesday night for a 7:30 p.m. battle with the Knights.

Last Time Out: The Pioneers defeated Nazareth College 5-1 on Sunday afternoon thanks to an electric performance by Madeline Krecidlo (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro). The senior tied a program record with four goals on 15 shots in the game. Krecidlo scored in the 5th minute off of a Sydney Scaccia (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) assist, in the 13th minute with Jeslyn Files (Weedsport, NY/Weedsport) on the assist, the 48th minute with another Scaccia assist and lastly in the 57th minute off of a Mackenzie Mix (Camden, NY/Camden) assist. Scaccia also scored in the 22nd minute with Mix on the assist. Megan Chamberlain (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) made three saves on six Golden Flyer shot attempts in 60 minutes. 
 
Where We Stand: UC (7-5, 4-1 Empire 8) has five games remaining, three of which are against Empire 8 opponents, before the Empire 8 Conference Tournament. At 4-1 in conference play, Utica sits behind St. John Fisher and Hartwick at the moment as both teams are tied for first at 4-0. The Pioneers have been the most explosive offense in the conference as the team ranks first averaging just over four goals per game while having scored 52 times this season, 17 more goals than second place Houghton. 
 
Climbing the Ranks: Megan Chamberlain (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) entered the season with 298 career saves, needing 92 to become the program's all-time leader. Now with 73 saves this season, Chamberlain is knocking on the door of Kells Casey's record of 390 career saves with 371 of her own. The senior will have at least five games to reach the milestone before the conference tournament. 
 
Krecidlo the Kid: With her four goal performance on Sunday afternoon, Madeline Krecidlo (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) bumped herself past teammate Sabrina Whitehouse (Greenwich, NY/Greenwich) to become the Empire 8 leader in goals scored with 13. Coming into the season, Krecidlo had 10 career goals to her name and 22 points, now the senior enters Wednesday with 23 career goals and 51 points. 
 
Wheelin' and Dealin': UC is far and away the conference leader with 37 assists, 16 more than Houghton who ranks second behind them. Mackenzie Mix (Camden, NY/Camden), Jeslyn Files (Weedsport, NY/Weedsport) and Sydney Scaccia (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) rank second through fourth in the Empire 8 in assists with Mix and Scaccia tied for second with eight and Files right behind with seven to her credit. Not far behind them is Shannon Jedreicich (Deer Park, NY/Half Hollow Hills East) in 10th place in the conference with four assists. 
 
About Geneseo: The Knights come into Wednesday's matchup 7-4 overall and 2-1 in the SUNYAC while riding a four-game winning streak where they have outscored opponents 13-0. Six of the team's seven wins have come via shutout as goalkeeper Sarah Quinlan owns a mark of  0.93 goals per game while also sporting a .842 save percentage. On offense, Geneseo averages 2.6 goals per game and is led by Maggie Phipps, Cassidy Sturdevant and Katrina Clare, all of whom have four goals this season. 

Up Next: UC will have a week off before traveling to Oneonta, NY on Wednesday, October 20 for a 7 p.m. game against Hartwick.
