Field Hockey Resumes E8 Action at Hartwick

UTICA, NY – The Utica College field hockey team will continue its road trip Wednesday against Hartwick College. Faceoff is set for 7 p.m.

How to Watch: Live stream and stats will be provided for Wednesday's game against Hartwick College. They can be found by following https://portal.stretchinternet.com/hartwick/#live.

Last Time Out: The Pioneers, 7-6 (4-1 E8), come into this game after falling 3-1 against non-conference opponent, SUNY Geneseo last Wednesday. Holding scoreless in the first half, the knights netted three goals in 3:48 to take the lead. The Pioneers tried to mount the comeback on a goal from junior Shannon Jedreicich (Deer Park, NY/Half Hollow Hills East) off the assist from senior Jeslyn Files (Weedsport, NY/Weedsport). When the final buzzer sounded, senior Megan Chamberlain (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) totaled 11 saves.

The Three Musketeers: The Pioneers enter the matchup leading the Empire 8 in shots, goals, and assists. Madeline Krecidlo (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro), Sydney Scaccia (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro), and Sabrina Whitehouse (Greenwich, NY/Greenwich) have been an unstoppable force offensively, amounting for 60 percent of the teams' goals and 54 percent of the teams' total points.  The trio is in the top four for scoring in the conference with Krecidlo tied for first (13 goals), Whitehouse is third (11 goals), and Scaccia is fourth (nine goals).

Rising to the Top: Senior goalkeeper Megan Chamberlain (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) continues to inch forward as one of the premiere goalkeepers in UC program history. After totaling 11 saves against SUNY Geneseo, Chamberlain tied herself for third all-time in career saves at 382 with Amanda McDonnell ('09). With four more games before the E8 tournament, Chamberlain only needs nine more saves to pass Kells Casey ('16) for first place all-time.

Junior Juggernaut: Junior Shannon Jedreicich (Deer Park, NY/Half Hollow Hills East) has found her stride so far this season.  She has netted eight goals and four assists, both of which are career highs. Having the solo goal for the Pioneers in their loss over Geneseo, Jedreicich moved to sixth in the E8 in total goals on the season.

Meeting History: This will be the 22nd meeting between the Empire 8 rivals. Hartwick holds a slight edge over Utica, with an 11-10 record in the series. The last meeting between the two teams was in the spring of 2021 where Utica fell 2-1. The Pioneers saw some familiar faces net their lone goal as Jeslyn Files (Weedsport, NY/Weedsport) found the back of the net off an assist from Sabrina Whitehouse (Greenwich, NY/Greenwich).

Scouting the Hawks: The Hawks enter this matchup with one of the top offenses in the Empire 8. Currently with an 8-4 (4-1 E8) record, Hartwick is second in the E8 in total points, shots, and goals. Hartwick is coming off a 2-1 overtime loss to St. John Fisher on Saturday, marking their first conference loss of the season.   The Hawks have 13 players who have hit the back of the net this season, led by Holly Calore and Lex Matarazzo, who have six goals apiece.  Hartwick has found an anchor in junior goalkeeper, Madison Maddocks. On the season, she leads the E8 in goals against average with 1.61.

Playoff Picture: St. John Fisher has clinched a playoff berth with a 6-0 record in Empire 8 play.  Hartwick and Utica are currently tied for second in the standings with identical 4-1 records in the E8.  Utica has three conference games remaining and can clinch a playoff spot by winning two of them.

Up Next: Following this matchup, UC will return home for Senior Day on Saturday versus Houghton College. Game time is 3 p.m.
