GENEVA, NY - The Utica College men's soccer team took its four-game winning streak into Hobart College on a rainy Tuesday evening and came up short of five in a row as the team was downed by the Statesmen, 5-2.
After Hobart scored in the 5th minute to take an early 1-0 lead, the Pioneers responded back not long after in the 21st minute.
Byamungu Mugushu (Syracuse, NY/Bishop Grimes) connected for his second goal of the season off of a
Michael Bernardo (Bayshore, NY/Bayshore ) assist to even the game. Just over one minute later,
Kamer Lenio (Brighton, NY/Brighton) scored his first collegiate goal to quickly put UC ahead, 2-1.
However, it was all Statesmen from that point on. Hobart scored in the 23rd minute to even the game once again before also connecting for goals in the 31st and 39th minutes to carry a 4-2 lead into the break. Another goal for the home team in the 54th minute put the game out of reach as Utica suffered just its second road loss of the season, 5-2.
The Pioneers were outshot 19-5 in the game including 11-0 in the second period.
Ramazani Juma (Utica, NY/Proctor) led Utica with two shot attempts while
Eduardo Paez (Eastchester, NY/Eastchester) recorded two saves in goal for the team.
UC (8-6-1, 5-2 Empire 8) ends the regular season at 7 p.m. on Friday, October 29 at home against Hartwick College on what is the team's senior day.
