ELMIRA, NY- The Utica College field hockey team wrapped up the regular season with a 4-0 win at Elmira College Saturday. The game officially goes down as a win for Utica, despite the contest being called at halftime due to poor field conditions.
The Pioneers got on the board at 9:41 as
Sydney Scaccia (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) netted her 12
th of the season, off an assist from freshman
Mackenzie Mix (Camden, NY/Camden). Just 3:32 later, junior
Shannon Jedreicich (Deer Park, NY/Half Hollow Hills East) put in her 11
th of the year, assisted by
Jeslyn Files (Weedsport, NY/Weedsport) to give Utica a 2-0 lead after the first quarter of play.
The Pioneers tacked on two more tallies in the second quarter, the first off the stick of
Lexi Scaccia (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro), also assisted by Files. Then at 27:35, graduate student
Sabrina Whitehouse (Greenwich, NY/Greenwich) put in her confernce-leading 18
th of the season, unassisted.
Megan Chamberlain (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury), utica's all-time leader in career saves stoppe done shot before the game was called. Her counterpart, MeganRae Burke, made 10 saves in the loss.
The Pioneers will now travel to Hartwick on Tuesday for the Empire 8 Semifinal. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
