UTICA, NY - The Utica College men's soccer team faced a scorching-hot Nazareth Golden Flyers team on Saturday afternoon. UC kept the game close however, fell to Nazareth, 2-1. 
 
Entering the game, Nazareth had won seven games in a row and outscored opponents 30-3 in that stretch. The Pioneers wouldn't allow the Golden Flyers to get too comfortable as Nazareth took a 1-0 lead into the break. UC was outshot by Nazareth 5-3 in the first period. 
 
In the 59th minute, the Golden Flyers took a 2-0 lead on one of three shot attempts taken by the team in the second period. In the 82nd minute, Jacob Sherline (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) netted his second goal of the season off of a Sory Konate (Harlem, NY/Forsyth Satellite Academy) assist to cut the deficit in half, 2-1. However, the Golden Flyers defense denied the Pioneers of a couple later attempts to hold on for the 2-1 win. 
 
Utica outshot Nazareth of the game, 15-8, including 12-3 in the second period. Jahren James (River Vale, NJ/Pascack Valley) attempted a game-high six shots, four of which on goal. Foti Xidias (Carteret, NJ/Carteret) recorded five saves in goal for the Pioneers. 
 
UC (4-5-1, 1-2 Empire 8) will travel to Rochester, NY on Wednesday, October 13 for a 7 p.m. game against St. John Fisher.
