Women's Hockey Cruises to 4th Straight Win

UTICA, NY- The Utica College women's hockey team kept its momentum rolling Saturday as it downed Kings College 5-0 to pick up the series sweep.

The Pioneers have now outscored their opponents 34-0 over their last four games.  Utica is also in the midst of a shutout streak that currently stands at 256:32. UC (4-1, 3-0 UCHC) will look to carry its momentum into a conference showdown at Stevenson University next weekend.  Friday's game will begin at 7 p.m. while Saturday's contest is scheduled for 3 p.m.

Senior Georgiana Santullo (Woburn, MA/Boston Shamrocks/Woburn High School) extended her scoring streak to four games as she put in her 10th of the year at 5:19 of the first period.  Erica Sloan (Potsdam, NY/St. Lawrence Steel) and Carly Stefanini (Framingham, MA/Brooks School) tallied assists on the play.

Utica tacked on an insurance tally with 2:24 remaining in the opening period when Rebecca Brown (Steamboat Springs, CO/Norwich University) fed Abby Lillis (West Seneca, NY/Buffalo Bisons) from behind the net.  Lillis fired a shot through the five-hole for her first of the year.  Nicole Flak (Middleton, MA/Boston Shamrocks) also picked up an assist on Utica's second goal.

The Pioneers took a three-goal lead at 14:50 of the second stanza as Alexa Carlon (Lakewood, NY/Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles) buried a loose puck in front.  Flak and Carloyn Whitney assisted on Carlon's second of the season.

The Pioneers added a pair of special teams goals in the final six minutes to put the game away.  First, Sloan capitalized on a Kings turnover and made a nifty move to roof a backhand shot into the top of the net for a shorthanded tally at 14:02.

Then, just 2:07 later, Santullo put in her second of the day and team-leading 11th of the year as she banged home a rebound.  Sloan and Stefanini picked up assists on the powerplay tally.

Sophomore Angela Hawthorne (Santa Clara, CA/Meijer) stopped all 11 shots she faced for her second straight shutout.  Her counterpart, Syd Dahl finished with 56 saves in the loss.
