Women's Basketball Wins Convincingly at Wells

AURORA, NY - The Utica College women's basketball team dominated Wells College from start to finish on Wednesday evening to improve to 7-0 this season after its 91-17 win over the Express. 
 
The teams were even at four through the first four minutes of the first quarter when Utica began to take control. The Pioneers finished the first quarter on a 13-2 run while closing the half on a 39-4 run to take a commanding 43-8 lead into halftime. The second half saw more of the same as UC didn't allow Wells more than six points in either remaining quarter on the way to its convincing win. 
 
Utica shot 53.7 percent from the field on the night despite only converting on 29.4 percent of three-point shots. The team forced 41 turnovers and 19 steals that helped lead to 56 points. The UC defense also held Wells to 17.4 percent shooting from the field. 
 
The Pioneers were led by Petrina DeMarco (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) who totaled 15 points (6-9 FG) in 19 minutes while Sydney Przygoda (Freehold, NJ/Freehold) finished with 14 points (6-8 FG) in the same amount of time. Cora Sawyer (New London, CT/New London) loaded her stat line with 10 points, eight steals, seven assists and four rebounds, also in 19 minutes of action. Krissy Geraci (Rochester, NY/Greece Arcadia) (12), Hannah Stack (Dogleville, NY/Dolgeville) (11) and Brigid Johndrow (Bristol, CT/St. Paul Catholic) (10) finished with double figures in points for UC as well. Geraci and Stack finished tied for the team lead with six rebounds apiece. 
 
UC (7-0, 0-0 Empire 8) will travel to Morrisville State College on Saturday looking to tie a 37-year-old program record with an 8-0 start. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
