UTICA, NY- For the second night in a row, the Utica College women's hockey team suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of UCHC foe, Nazareth College. The Golden Flyers used one goal in each period to top the Pioneers on Saturday.
 
Naz got on the board with just 1:41 remaining in the opening period when Abbey Luth scored on a great individual effort.  Luth was all alone in front and was denied twice by freshman goalie Angela Hawthorne (Santa Clara, CA/Meijer), but was finally able to slip it past Hawthorne on her third whack at it.  Makenna Wiljanen and Hailey Redders tallied assists on the play.
 
The Golden Flyers got an insurance tally just over halfway through the second stanza when Redders roofed one into the top left corner of the net for her first of the year.  Delaney Carle and Maddison Nichols picked up assists on the power play tally. 
 
Naz capped off the scoring at 4:47 of the third period when Nichols netted one of her own off a feed from Luth.
 
Hawthorne made 36 saves in net as she was dealt the first loss of her career. Her counterpart, Noelle Giroux meanwhile had 20 saves for the shutout.
 
The Pioneers look to bounce back next weekend as they take on Elmira College in another home-and-home series.  Friday's game will be at 6 p.m. in Utica before the teams faceoff in Elmira on Saturday (4 p.m.)
