Camels Triumph Over Women's Hockey

NEW LONDON, CT- The Utica College women's hockey team fell to host Connecticut College 5-2 in non-conference action Sunday afternoon.

Utica drops to 6-6 on the season.  The Pioneers look to rebound next weekend as they wrap up conference play with a home-and-home series against Lebanon Valley.  Game one is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday at the Adirondack Bank Center.

The Camels opened the scoring just 1:28 into the game as Melissa Alexander netted her second of the year off an assist from Melanie Conca.

Utica responded at 13:12 of the first when Hailey Modlin (Phoenix, AZ/Boston Shamrocks) capitalized on a failed clearing attempt by Connecticut College and fired a shot into the top right corner of the met for her second of the season.  Sophomore Morgan Leib (Farmington Hills, MI/Little Caesars) picked up an assist on the equalizer.

Connecticut regained the lead at 16:49 of the first when Camille Phelan found the back of the net for her third of the year.  Erin Dillon and Caitlyn Wilkin were credited with assists on Phelan's tally.

The Camels picked up goals by Dillon and Wilkin in the second period to take a 4-1 lead into the third period.  Modlin once again cut the lead as she scored her second of the day just 1:13 into the period.  Holly Silva (Boston, MA/Worcester Academy) and Savannah Gutierrez (Huntington Beach, CA/Anaheim Lady Ducks) were credited with assists on the power play tally.  Gutierrez becomes just the third goalie in program history and the first since the 2004-05 season to notch a point for the Pioneers.

Connecticut College iced the game at 8:32 of the third when Mairi Anthony scored her third goal of the season.

Gutierrez finished with 30 saves for Utica, while her counterpart, Carly Denora made 21 saves in the win.
