UTICA, NY - The Utica College men's soccer team did everything it could to keep pace, but the Pioneers could not find the final piece to their attack as they fell 1-0 to visiting Elmira College in a non-conference match at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.
Utica is 0-4 to start the season. Elmira improves to 1-1.
The Pioneers surrendered the lone goal of the match in the 71st minute as Elmira's Tarik Abdi potted a cross from inside the box for the winning score. Utica fought valiantly with a chain of promising build-ups into the Elmira half, especially at the dusk of the match, but the missing piece eluded them as they fell 1-0.
The Pioneers outshot the Soaring Eagles 9-3, and 5-3 on the goal frame.
Randy Miksch (Lake Villa, IL/Warren Township) and
Foti Xidias (Carteret, NJ/Carteret) each made a save apiece in the contest.
Ramazani Juma (Utica, NY/Proctor) led Utica with four shots.Â
The Pioneers return to the pitch against Alfred University on Friday. Match time is set for 3:45 at Gaetano Stadium for the conference affair.
