Men's Soccer Falls in Regular Season Finale

Rochester, NY - The Utica College soccer team suffered a heartbreaking  2-1 loss in its final regular season game of the season on Sunday afternoon at Nazareth.

The game remained scoreless until the 38:34 mark when Dante Walters found the back of the net to give Nazareth a 1-0 lead. The Golden Flyers took its 1-0 lead into the break as the Pioneers couldn't get one of its eight first half shots to sneak in.

Neither team could generate any offense in the first 40 minutes of the second half. However, the final five minutes turned out to decide the game.

UC was able to even the game at one after Sory Konate (Harlem, NY/Forsyth Satellite Academy) scored at the 86:14 mark off the assist from Kevin Griffith (Sauquoit, NY). While it seemed as if overtime was inevitable, Nazareth struck back less than one minute later as Walters scored his second goal of the game at 87:02. The Pioneers couldn't mount another comeback over the last three minutes as the Golden Flyers hung on for the 2-1 victory.

Utica finished with 16 total shots while 11 of them were shots on goal as Nazareth attempted 11 shots all game while converting on two of its six shots on goal.

The Pioneers will gear up for the Empire 8 conference tournament which begins on April 14. The top six teams in the conference will qualify and as of right now UC is currently fifth in the standings. As it stands Utica will meet Nazareth, who is fourth in the conference, again on Wednesday in a win or go home game.
