Women's Lacrosse To Play Canton For Second Time This Season

UTICA, NY - The Utica College women's lacrosse team hits the road for a match-up at SUNY Canton on Wednesday, April 14, at 4 p.m.

Last Time Out: The Pioneers have now won three games in a row after a big 21-1 win on Saturday against Houghton College. UC received goals from 12 different players to cruise to victory - Alyssa Drell (Mastic, NY/William Floyd) (four goals), Lexi Scaccia (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) (three goals), Katherine Migliori (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) (two goals), Devin Ryan (Orchard Park, NY/Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart) (two goals), Katie Crofoot (Montgomery, NY/Valley Central) (two goals), Samantha DeCondo (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) (two goals), Kristin Krieg (Schenectady, NY/Guilderland), Alyssa Pisano (Hopewell Junction, NY/Arlington), Mackenzie Keane (Newfoundland, NJ/West Milford), Addison Green (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro), Tracey Moreno, and Stephanie Husnay (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro). Eight players pitched in assists on the day - Courtney See (Ossining, NY/Ossining), Lauren Wolff (Peabody, MA/Peabody), Sydney Scaccia (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro), Ryan, Moreno(two), Migliori(two), Lexi Scaccia (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro)(two), and Husnay(four). Junior goalkeeper Claire Frier (Lafayette, NY/Lafayette) had two saves in net.

Last Time Against Canton: Utica won by a 16-3 score over the Roos back on Friday, April 2nd at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium. Lexi Scaccia (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) scored six goals and recorded her 100th career point in the contest in a nine point effort. Stephanie Husnay (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) recorded five points on two goals and three assists. Samantha DeCondo (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) also added two goals. 

Lexi Leads: Junior attacker Lexi Scaccia (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) led UC on the day, with five points on three goals and two assists. She also won 11 draw controls. Scaccia's hat trick extends her goal-scoring streak to 13 games, dating back to the start of the 2020 season. She tops the team with 25 goals and 16 assists for 41 points this season. She has also picked up 18 ground balls, caused 15 turnovers, and won 36 draw controls. Scaccia is currently third in the conference for goals per game(2.78), assists per game(1.78), and points per game(4.56). She is also fifth for draw controls per game(4.00), and sixth for shots per game(6.00). Scaccia has surpassed the 100 career points mark, and currently has 113 career points. 

Alyssa On The Attack: Freshman attacker Alyssa Drell (Mastic, NY/William Floyd) had a breakout game as she netted a personal-best four goals on Saturday. She scored her hat trick in the first half of the game, in a span of four minutes. Husnay, and both Lexi and Sydney Scaccia (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro), each chipped in an assist on a goal. Drell scored once more in the second half to mark her fourth goal of the day - Migliori assisted on the play. Drell is currently fifth on the team board, with 12 goals and two assists for 14 points. She has also picked up eight ground balls and caused five turnovers. 

Husnay Makes The Play: Senior attacker Stephanie Husnay (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) was a key playmaker in Saturday's game. She pitched in four assists and netted one goal, all in a matter of four minutes. Husnay is second on the team board with 14 goals and 11 assists this season, for 25 points. She has also picked up seven ground balls and caused three turnovers. Husnay is sixth in the conference for assists per game(1.22). 

Ryan Makes A Move: Freshman defenseman Devin Ryan (Orchard Park, NY/Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart) had quite the performance after netting two goals, pitching in an assist, picking up two ground balls, and winning two draw controls in the win over Houghton. She has three goals and two assists this season, for five points. She has also picked up 12 ground balls, caused eight turnovers, and won 17 draw controls this season. 

DeCondo Doubles Down: Sophomore attacker Samantha DeCondo (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) continues her goal-scoring streak to six games after she netted two goals on Saturday. She scored one goal per half, and picked up an assist on the day. DeCondo is third on the team for points, with 19 goals and five assists for 24 points this season. She has also picked up 14 ground balls, caused eight turnovers, and won 10 draw controls. DeCondo is currently tenth in the conference for goals per game(2.11). 

Up Next: The Pioneers resume conference play on Saturday, when they host conference foe Nazareth College at 12 p.m.
