Women's Lacrosse Battles Naz Saturday

UTICA, NY - The Utica College women's lacrosse team looks to keep the momentum going as they host conference foe Nazareth College on Saturday, April 17. Start time is set for noon at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.

Last Time Out: The Pioneers cruised to another big win, as they topped SUNY Canton 21-3 on Wednesday. It was their fourth straight win, and their sixth in their last seven games. It was a big and balanced performance for the attack, with 20 goals coming from 11 different players - Lexi Scaccia (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) (four goals), Samantha DeCondo (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) (four goals), Lauren Wolff (Peabody, MA/Peabody) (two goals), Alyssa Pisano (Hopewell Junction, NY/Arlington) (two goals), Addison Green (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) (two goals), Tracy Moreno (Cedar Grove, NJ/Cedar Grove) (two goals), Kristin Krieg (Schenectady, NY/Guilderland), Mackenzie Keane (Newfoundland, NJ/West Milford), Devin Ryan (Orchard Park, NY/Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart), Stephanie Husnay (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro), and Mara Cunningham (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury). Six Pioneers recorded assists on the day. Claire Frier (Lafayette, NY/Lafayette), Shaylynn Palmer (Kirkville, NY/East Syracuse Minoa), and Savanna Thomas (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) all saw action in net, with Frier earning the win.

Last Time Against Nazareth: Nazareth picked up a win against Utica in nonconference play on Saturday, March 13th by a 13-9 score in Rochester. Stephanie Husnay (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) had three goals to lead UC, while Emma States headed up the Nazareth effort with six goals. 

DeCondo Heating Up: Sophomore attacker Samantha DeCondo (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) is in the midst of a seven-game scoring streak.  She has been especially dangerous as of late as she has totaled 15 points in her last three games.  She has scored at least one goal in 11 of her 12 collegiate games since coming to UC. DeCondo moved up to second on the team with 23 goals and six assists for 29 points this season. She has picked up 16 ground balls, caused nine turnovers, and won 10 draw controls. DeCondo is currently 10th in the conference for goals per game (2.30). 

Scaccia Scores: Junior attacker Lexi Scaccia (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) continued her goal-scoring on Wednesday after she scored four goals, to bring her goal-scoring streak to 14 games. Scaccia scored a hat trick in the first half, and then netted her fourth early in the second - Husnay assisted on a goal. Scaccia continues to top the squad with 29 goals and 16 assists for 45 points this season. She has picked up 19 ground balls, caused 16 turnovers, and won 38 draw controls. Scaccia is currently second in the conference for points per game(4.50), third for goals per game(2.90), and fifth for assists per game(1.60). She is also seventh for both shots per game(6.10) and draw controls per game(3.80). 

Can't Contain The Wolff: Senior attacker Lauren Wolff (Peabody, MA/Peabody) had four points in the most recent win over Canton, as she scored two goals and pitched in two assists. She currently has 55 career assists and just needs two more to tie with Tammy Kohanski '11 for third place on UC's all-time list. Wolff has 14 goals and nine assists for 23 points this season. She has also picked up 18 ground balls and caused four turnovers. Wolff also passed the 100 career point mark, after she scored six goals against Hartwick on April 7th. She now has 110 points to her credit in 48 career games played. 

Husnay Moves Up: Senior attacker Stephanie Husnay (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) had one goal and two assists on Wednesday, as this moved her into sole possession of second all-time on UC's career assists list (59). She is currently third on the team, with 15 goals and 13 assists for 28 points this season. Husnay is sixth in the conference for assists per game(1.30). 

A First For Cunningham: Freshman defender Mara Cunningham (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) netted a goal late in the second half against Canton to end the game on a high note, as it marked her first collegiate goal.
