Last Time Out: The Pioneers split with SUNY Poly on March 27. The team dropped a high scoring first game 14-12 before coming back and taking game two 9-1.
Player of the Week: Kaitlyn Paul (Albany, NY/Guilderland) was named Empire 8 Player of the Week for her performance from this past weekend's games. She hit .462 over the team's four games with six RBIs, six runs scored and even went yard twice. Paul also threw out a pair of baserunners from behind the dish.
Triple Threat: While Paul had herself a nice weekend at the plate, a pair of her teammates did as well.
Emily Joss (South Glens Falls, NY/South Glens Falls) and
Sara Stransky (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) both hit over .400 last weekend while playing large parts in the offensive outbursts. Joss leads the team with a .538 average while Stransky is carrying a smooth .417. All three of them find themselves in the top-10 in the conference for batting average and on base percentage. The trio have combined to produce 18 of the team's 38 hits while being responsible for driving in 12 of the 27 RBIs the team has. They are also responsible for scoring 16 out of the total 35 runs the team has put across.
Can't Touch This: Gabriella Caccamo (Suffern, NY/Suffern) and
Jordyn Conte (Newport, NY/West Canada Valley High School) have combined to hurl 21.1 out of the 23 total innings UC has spent in the field. Through four games Caccamo's 1.17 ERA ranks second in the E8 while Conte's 3.75 nets her in sixth. The duo, along with
Makenna Reinold (Holland Patent, NY/Holland Patent High School), have also yet to allow a home run, the only team in the E8 that has not yet given up the long ball.
Scouting Sage: The Gators have yet to play a game this season making it 13 months since they last took the field. They started the 2020 season 7-5 during the team's trip to Florida prior to the cancellation of the remainder of the season. Sage is fielding a young team that includes nine combined freshmen and sophomores to four juniors and two seniors.
Up Next: UC will return home for doubleheaders on back-to-back days. On April 7 the team will face Cazenovia at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. before facing Skidmore College on April 8 at the same times.
