UTICA, NY- The Utica College field hockey team had its bid for an E8 title come up short as it fell to visiting Nazareth College 5-2 in the Empire 8 Conference first round Wednesday evening.
Â
Despite Utica getting the early chances, it was Nazareth that struck first at 10:56 into play as Emma Rosenberg netted her first of four on the day.  Rosenberg and Caroline Desautels went down on a two-on-one. Desautels played the ball over to Rosenberg who shot between the legs of Utica netminder
Megan Chamberlain (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) for the go-ahead goal.
Â
The Golden Flyers tacked on another tally exactly six minutes later as Desautels scored one of her own. Desautels sent a feed across the front of the cage that deflected off a Utica defender and dribbled across the goal line to put the visitors up 2-0.
Â
Rosenberg and Desautels connected again at 21:01 to give Naz a 3-0 lead.
Â
Utica was able to get one back at 22:17 as

Jacqueline Povall (Pine Plains, NY/Stissing Mountain) was credited with an assist on the play.
Â
