Keuka Park, NY - The Utica College softball team was swept by Keuka College on Saturday afternoon by scores of 5-4 in 10 innings in game one and 10-7 in game two.
Game 1
UC took an early lead in the first game when Julia Phelps (Waterford, NY/Shenendehowa High School) worked a walk to drive in a run to put the Pioneers ahead 1-0 in the 2nd inning.
Brooke Catlin (Brewerton, NY/Central Square High School) drove home Emily Joss (South Glens Falls, NY/South Glens Falls) in the 3rd inning on a single to center to put the Pioneers ahead 2-0. Keuka went ahead and took the lead in the 4th inning on a sacrifice fly and a pair of singles two make it a 3-2 game.
After a scoreless 5th inning, the Pioneers knotted the game in the 6th inning Abbigayle Finch (New Paltz, NY/New Paltz) doubled to center field which scored Catlin to even the game at three a piece. The game went into extra innings and carried into the 10th inning. There, the Wolves hit a walk-off single and won game one 4-3.
Jordyn Conte (Newport, NY/West Canada Valley High School) tossed 9.1 innings in the losing effort while giving up four runs, three earned, on 16 hits while striking out one batter. Catlin finished game one 3-for-5 at the dish with an RBI.
Game 2
Keuka held an early 3-0 advantage in game two that led up until the 5th inning.
UC struck back with a five run 5th inning that started with a Sarah Stransky two RBI double to make it a 3-2 game in gavore of Keuka. Megan O'Keefe (Albany, NY/Bethlehem Central) drove home the tying run on a single to right field which was followed by Emily Joss (South Glens Falls, NY/South Glens Falls) scoring two more on a putout to center field to give UC a 5-3 lead.
The Wolves stuck back with five runs of their own in the 5th inning, all on singles, to carry an 8-5 lead into the 6th inning. The Wolves added two more runs in the 6th inning before Finch singled home two in the final frame for the Pioneers as they went on to drop gane two 10-7.
Finch finished game two 3-for-4 at the plate while Joss went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs.
Up next the Pioneers face Russell sage on april 2/8 at home. Game one is set to begin at 3 p.m.
