Women's Soccer Plays to Tie with Fisher

UTICA, NY- The Utica College women's soccer team earned a hard-fought 1-1 tie against visiting St. John Fisher College in Empire 8 Conference action Thursday afternoon.

The Cardinals struck first in the 20th minute as Becky Mack netted her first of the year.  Alexis Gossage picked up the assist on the opening goal.

The Pioneers were finally able to even the score in the 80th minute when senior Jacinta Kaminski (Holland Patent, NY/Holland Patent) netted her third of the year. Sophomore Jenna Keeman (Douglas, MA/Douglas) lined up for a free kick from just beyond the midfield line.  Keeman fired a long ball into the box that the Fisher keeper could not hold onto and Kaminski's rebound somehow found its way into the back of the net to give UC new life.

Despite sustained pressure by the Pioneers, especially in the first overtime period, they were not able to net the equalizer.  Freshman Courtney Connolly (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) finished with 10 saves on the day, while Fisher's Lila Platt and Halle Tickell combined for nine saves.

Utica wraps up the condensed regular season with a 2-2-1 record (1-2-1 Empire 8).  The Pioneers will await their seeding and opponent for next week's Empire 8 Conference tournament.
