UTICA, NY - Four days after dropping its season opener, the Utica College women's tennis team secured its first win of the season after taking down Sage 5-4 on Wednesday night.
Sage won doubles 2-1 with the single Pioneers win coming from the freshman combination of
Paetra Heeren () and
Victoria Vo (). After
Ellen Lyga (New Hartford, NY/Notre Dame) lost her first singles match since last season, the rest of the Pioneers were able to pick her up.
Morgan Willis (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) claimed second singles while Heeren won the third singles 6-4, 7-6. Vo claimed singles four 6-1, 6-2 and
Haley Dekin (Castorland, NY) took the fifth singles 6-1, 6-1, to help guide Utica to a 5-4 win.
UC (1-1) returns to the court at 4 p.m. at home on Friday when they take on future Empire 8 opponent Medaille College.
