CANTON, NY- The Utica College field hockey team fell to SUNY New Paltz 7-2 in non-conference action Saturday. Junior
Shannon Jedreicich (Deer Park, NY/Half Hollow Hills East) led the Pioneers with a goal and an assist.
Â
New Paltz struck early with a pair of goals in the first 5:20 of play and added two more tallies before the end of the first half to take a 4-0 lead after 30 minutes of action.
Â
Madeline Krecidlo (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) netted her first of the year at 40:10 off an assist by Jedreicich. It was short-lived however as the Hawks struck back just 1:02 later to regain momentum.
Â
New Paltz struck two more times before Jedreicich found the back of the net herself with 3:32 remaining in the second half, but it was too little, too late as the Hawks went on to win their season-opener.
Â
Megan Chamberlain (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) made three saves in net for the Pioneers, while Mackenzie Mortimer and Ryan Dowling combined for four saves for New Paltz.Â
Â
The Pioneers face a quick turnaround as they travel to Oneonta on Sunday for a matchup against the Red Dragons. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
