Recapping the Week: UC came home with a season-opening 1-0 win at SUNY Delhi on September 1. While playing in the Oswego St. Tournament, Utica finished 0-1-1 with a 2-0 loss to Skidmore and a 1-1 tie with Oswego St.

New Sheriff in Town: Foti Xidias (Carteret, NJ/Carteret) put together a quality three games in goal for UC as the sophomore has taken over keeper duties for former UC goalkeeper, Randy Miksch (Lake Villa, IL/Warren Township). Xidias earned an opening day shutout win on September 1 at SUNY Delhi and completed his week with three goals allowed, 15 saves and a .833 save percentage. His 15 saves ranks second in the Empire 8 while his .833 save percentage ranks third in the conference.

For the Win: Brady Maloney (Ellisburg, NY/Bellville Henderson) played hero in the Pioneers' season-opening win at SUNY Delhi on September 1. The forward redirected a missed free kick with a header at 22:41 to provide UC with an early lead and ultimately the game-winning goal. Maloney finished the week with one goal on seven shots, two on goal.

Starting Right: In his second career game, Jacob Sherline (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) gave the Pioneers a late lead in the 57th minute on September 5 against Oswego St. The freshman headed in a goal on his second attempt of the game, ultimately leading to a 1-1 tie with the Lakers.

Scouting Potsdam: The Bears will enter Wednesday 0-0-1 after the team tied with Alfred University, 1-1 on September 5. Donny Ophals netted the only Potsdam goal while keeper Conor Callan recorded nine saves in all 110 minutes in net. UC is 5-7 all-time against Potsdam and defeated the Bears 2-0 in the most recent meeting between the teams in 2019.

About Misericordia: The Cougars begin the new week 2-0 after defeating Susquehanna University, 2-1 and Ramapo College, 1-0. Three different players recorded the three total goals scored by Misericordia throughout its first week while keeper Andrew Daubenspeck recorded four saves and a shutout in goal. This will be the first meeting all-time between the programs.
