Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Dobay, Landsberger Lead The Way In Blanking of Arcadia

UTICA, NY - The Utica College men's ice hockey team posted a 7-0 win for a second straight day on Saturday. After a slow start yielded a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes, the Pioneers overwhelmed host Arcadia with six goals in the final two periods to cruise to a United Collegiate Hockey Conference win in Colmar, Pa.

The #3 Pioneers are now 15-2 overall, and 11-0 in the United Collegiate Hockey Conference. They have won eight consecutive games and maintain the top spot in the standings through the weekend. Arcadia is now 3-14 overall, and 1-9 in the UCHC.

Over the course of two meetings this season, the Pioneers out-scored the Knights 19-1.

Defenseman Jayson Dobay (Weymouth, MA/Youngstown Phantoms (USHL)) led the Utica effort with a goal and two assists. Brian Scoville (Agawam, MA/Alabama-Huntsville (NCAA DI)) and Matt Wood (Garnet Valley, PA/Richmond Generals (USPHL)) each logged two assists. Remy Parker (Montclair, NJ/University of Maine (NCAA DI)), Regen Cavanagh (Chesapeake, VA/Sioux Falls Stampede (USHL)), Cameron Patton (Truro, Nova Scotia/Yarmouth Mariners (MJAHL)), Khristian Acosta (Port Monmouth, NJ/Mercyhurst University (NCAA DI)), John Moncovich (Wilmington, NC/Hampton Roads Whalers (USPHL)), and Brett Everson (Mississauga, Ontario/Hawkesbury (CCHL)) also added goals. Buster Larsson (Malmo, Sweden/Utica Jr. Comets (NCDC)) had an assist to maintain his point streak at eight consecutive games.

Goaltender Bryan Landsberger (Montreal, Quebec/Nepean Raiders (CCHL)) made 17 saves for his first career shutout.

Utica out-shot the hosts 56-17, and were 3-for-7 on the power play.

The Pioneers led the first period in shots by an 18-3 margin, but were able to find the net just once despite carrying much of the play. UC lifted the lid on the scoring at 5:32 on a goal by John Moncovich (Wilmington, NC/Hampton Roads Whalers (USPHL)), with Patton and Dobay grabbing the assists. That lead held through the end of the opening frame.

Moncovich now has a goal in three of his last four games, and in all three instances, he has scored the first goal of the game.

Khristian Acosta (Port Monmouth, NJ/Mercyhurst University (NCAA DI)) lit the lamp for a second time this season to open up the scoring in the middle frame at 8:18. That sparked a three goal surge over a span of just under three minutes, as Brett Everson (Mississauga, Ontario/Hawkesbury (CCHL)) recorded his fifth goal of the campaign at 10:33, and Remy Parker (Montclair, NJ/University of Maine (NCAA DI)) continued to impress early in his Utica tenure with his third goal of the year at 11:02. He has three goals in the last four games for UC. Parker's goal put Utica up 4-0 at the end of the second.

In the third, Regen Cavanagh (Chesapeake, VA/Sioux Falls Stampede (USHL)) started another trifecta of tallies with his 30th career goal at 3:19. Cameron Patton (Truro, Nova Scotia/Yarmouth Mariners (MJAHL)) took his excellent second half form another step further with his fourth goal of the year on the power play at 6:07. Dobay finished off the scoring, with Wood and Scoville picking up the assists at 13:42 to put a bow on a 7-0 win.

With the win, Utica successfully swept a four-game road trip by a combined 28-5 score.

The Pioneers will be back at home on Saturday, January 29th for a conference game against Stevenson. Puck drop is set for 5 p.m.
