UC Resumes Action on Saturday Against Sage

UTICA, NY - The Utica College women's basketball team will host a familiar foe on Saturday afternoon as the Russell Sage Gators travel to Miga Court in what will be the second meeting between the teams in an 11-day span. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.

Follow Along: Live video and stats for Saturday's game can be followed through https://portal.stretchinternet.com/utica/

Last Time Out: The last time the Pioneers stepped on the court was last Saturday afternoon when they defeated Houghton College 68-55 to improve to 15-2 on the season. Senior Sydney Przygoda (Freehold, NJ/Freehold) and junior Kristine Miller (Red Hook, NY/Red Hook) led the charge for UC with their outstanding performances. Przygoda led the team with 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for what was her ninth double-double of the season. Miller also finished with a double-double, the first of her career, with 16 points and 16 rebounds, both of which were career highs. With the game deadlocked at 31 at halftime, UC outscored the Highlanders 37-24 in the second half to help guide to the win. Senior Petrina Demarco and sophomore Krissy Geraci (Rochester, NY/Greece Arcadia) each added eight points for the Pioneers.

Top Notch: Senior Sydney Przygoda (Freehold, NJ/Freehold) not only leads the Pioneers in a plethora of statistical categories, but she also leads the conference in points (270), rebounds (179), and field goal percentage (53.3%) making for an all-conference type of year. Przygoda also owns the 23rd best mark in the country with 10.5 rebounds per game while her nine double-doubles are good enough for a 14-way tie for the 20th most this season in DIII.

Assists By Johndrow: Guard Brigid Johndrow (Bristol, CT/St. Paul Catholic) is no stranger to setting up her teammates to score. At 5.4 assists per game she leads the Empire 8 and nationally she ranks seventh. Not only does she facilitate the basketball but she takes it away as well, coming in at number one in the Empire 8 and 18th nationally in steals averaging 2.9 per game. Impressively, Johndrow's triple-double from earlier this season is still ranked third in Division III.

Miller Time: Kristine Miller (Red Hook, NY/Red Hook) had an incredible breakout game against Houghton last time out having a career high in points and rebounds, as well as recording her first double double. On the season, Miller is averaging 4.2 points per game on an efficient 48.6 percent shooting.

Scouting Sage: The Gators are currently 8-9 overall and 4-4 in Empire 8 play. The team defeated Elmira College 83-77 last Saturday but took a loss to Hartwick College 66-44 on Tuesday night. Senior Sammy Pasinella leads Sage with 15.9 points per game and also has an impressive 85.7 free throw percentage.

Gator Gone: The Pioneers traveled to Sage just one week ago and returned to Utica with an 80-71 win over the Gators. The turning point was when the Pioneers outscored the Gators 26-5 in the second quarter, going into halftime with a convincing 46-26 lead. Although Sage was able to out-score UC 45-34 over the final 20 minutes, it was not enough as the Pioneers held off the Gators' comeback attempt. Petrina Demarco was the star of the game, draining six threes and leading the way with 20 points in the victory.

Pioneer Forecast: After Saturday's game against Sage, Utica will face a three-game road trip that will start at Keuka College on February 4 at 5:30 p.m.
