SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY - The Utica University field hockey team fell to Skidmore College 7-0 in its final non-conference contest of the season on Wednesday afternoon.
Skidmore scored three times within the first eight minutes of play to jump out to a 3-0 lead after one quarter. The Pioneers were able to hold the home team to one goal on five attempts in the second quarter to trail 4-0 at halftime.
Utica surrendered three more goals in the third quarter as the team fell behind 7-0. The team pushed the offensive pace with three shots, including two on goal, however, none of which found the back of the cage. Although the Pioneers were able to generate two more scoring looks in the fourth quarter, Skidmore held on for the shutout victory.
Shannon Jedreicich (Deer Park, NY/Half Hollow Hills East) led Utica with two shots, including one on goal, while
Alyssa Pisano (Hopewell Junction, NY/Arlington) and
Alanna Fragapane (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy ) got off one shot each. In goal,
Lyla Cushman (Holland Patent, NY/Holland Patent) made seven saves.
Utica (7-8, 6-2 Empire 8) will wrap up its regular season at 6 p.m. on Saturday against St. John Fisher from Charles A. Gaetano Stadium. The team will honor seniors
Jenna Carbone (Gloversville, NY/Gloversville),
Shannon Jedreicich (Deer Park, NY/Half Hollow Hills East) and
Chloe Williams (Holland Patent, NY/Holland Patent) prior to its Empire 8 contest with postseason seeding implications.
