UTICA, NY - The Utica University's men's soccer team fell to the Hamilton College Continentals 5-0 on Tuesday Afternoon.
The first half was controlled by Hamilton as the home team seemingly had its way on offense. The Continentals scored just one minute into the game as Sam Webber netted his first goal of the season. Hamilton then totaled five shots within the first 10 minutes before breaking through again in the 21st minute to take a 2-0 lead. Utica fought back as
Byamungu Mugushu (Syracuse, NY/Bishop Grimes) and
Cody Baker-Green (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) managed shots in the half however, neither could find the back of the night as the Continentals took a 2-0 advantage into halftime.
Hamilton dictated the pace of the game in the second half by controlling the ball and forcing all of the pressure on the Pioneer's defense. Utica again was able to fire off shots, yet could not convert its opportunities into goals. Hamilton went on to net a trio of goals in the second half to take the non-conference contest 5-0.
The Pioneers ran their offense through their playmakers as Baker-Green recorded two shots while Mugushu and
Nicholas Theimer (Flagstaff, AZ/Flagstaff) each registered a shot on the night.
Foti Xidias (Carteret, NJ/Carteret) played the majority of the match in goal as he tallied 66 minutes with a season high nine saves.
Eduardo Paez (Eastchester, NY/Eastchester) came in relief and tallied three saves of his own.
Utica (5-3-1, 2-0-1 Empire 8) will host St. John Fisher on Saturday at noon.
